Proceeds to benefit literacy and attendance initiatives at William C. Keane Elementary School in Schenectady

Schenectady, NY (July 2, 2024) – Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady will be hosting the Schenectady Rotary Club’s 3rd annual Cornhole for a Cause cornhole tournament at the casino’s Event Center this Sunday, July 7. The event, in partnership with the Adirondack Cornhole League (ACL) and Discover Schenectady, will raise funds for the Schenectady Rotary’s Community Schools Initiative to help improve literacy and increase attendance at William C. Keane Elementary School on Albany Street in Schenectady. Last year the Schenectady Rotary raised funds to refurbish the school’s new community resource room.

The day-long family-friendly Cornhole for a Cause tournament will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is open to professionals and amateurs alike. Singles and Doubles play will be available in all divisions including Open (advanced), Competitive, Intermediate (social) and Novice. Players will compete for trophies and cash prizes. There will be benefit drawings and auctions and entertainment with DJ Cassius.

The registration fee is $25 for ACL members and $35 for non-members. There is also a $5 door entry fee for players and spectators (children accompanied by an adult are free). Last year’s Cornhole for a Cause tournament raised much-needed funds for the new community resource room at Keane Elementary School. The community room is now open before and after school hours, and provides a safe and comfortable place for students and their families to spend time together, have meals, do laundry, and have access to a full kitchen, clothing closets, food pantries, and mental health services.
