World War II Veteran Stays at Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady’s Landing Hotel
101-year-old Sidney Walton spent the night at The Landing Hotel after meeting New York Governor Andrew Cuomo
Schenectady, NY (October 6, 2020) – A very special guest spent the night at The Landing Hotel at Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady. 101-year-old World War 2 Veteran, Sidney Walton, spent the night at the hotel after meeting with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Sunday, October 4. The centenarian is currently traveling around the country as part of his No Regrets Tour, where he’s visiting all 50 states, meeting all 50 governors, and everyone else along the way.
“Meeting Sidney was an absolute pleasure for all the Team Members,” said The Landing Hotel’s General Manager, Laura Primiano. “We meet a lot of interesting people in the hospitality industry, and Sidney is truly the most memorable and inspiring. We’re incredibly honored that he chose the Landing Hotel for his accommodations and wish him nothing but the best as he continues his amazing No Regrets Tour.”
Sidney decided to stay at the Landing Hotel after his son told him about the hotel’s special $79 Hero’s Rate in honor of all the essential workers on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Walton was born on February 11, 1919 in New York City and joined the Army at 21 to fight Hitler nine months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. As a Corporal, he fought in the China, Burma, India (CBI) Theater with the 34th Infantry, 8th Division, and returned to the United States after the war.
He always regretted missing the chance to meet Civil War veterans. To make up for that he decided, in this, the 75th anniversary year of the end of WWII, to undertake his No Regrets Tour and give everyone an opportunity to meet a WWII vet before they are all gone. Sidney also wants to remind everyone of the courage it took, and the sacrifices soldiers made, to save this great country.
