Take Your Child to Work Day and ‘Rivers Gives’ Land at the National Aviary on April 25
Kids of Rivers Casino Team Members are in for a hoot
PITTSBURGH — April 24, 2024 — Team Members from Rivers Casino Pittsburgh will descend upon the National Aviary on Thursday, April 25. As part of the casino’s long-running community engagement program, volunteers from the casino will report to the aviary instead of the gaming floor for work from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
And, since April 25 is also Take Your Child to Work Day, casino volunteers will be accompanied by their own kids. It will be a full-fledged philanthropic adventure during which they’ll team up with aviary staff for a day of service and discovery.
Children of casino Team Members will have the chance to learn about wildlife and conservation alongside their parents. Sessions are interactive and will include educational crafts plus a few exciting encounters with some of the National Aviary’s feathered friends.
The National Aviary is America’s only independent indoor nonprofit zoo dedicated to birds. Located in Allegheny Commons Park on Pittsburgh’s historic Northside, the National Aviary is home to more than 500 birds, representing more than 150 species from around the world, many of them threatened or endangered in the wild.
“Having the Rivers Gives team and their children join us for a fun and engaging day of volunteering is always a pleasure,” said Cheryl Tracy, executive director of the National Aviary. “It’s not only a great opportunity for community involvement but also an exciting chance to appreciate and learn more about the diverse bird species in our care.”
Each month, as part of Rivers Gives, casino Team Members participate in service projects that benefit the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Gives team partnered with Community Kitchen Pittsburgh and assisted in preparing ready-to-go meals for community members in need.
“We’d like to extend our thanks to the National Aviary for providing our volunteers and their children with this unique educational community service opportunity,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino. “We appreciate and applaud the great work that they do.”
