Rivers Casino Community Champions Serve With Community Kitchen Pittsburgh
Team Members aid Pittsburgh community food center for October project
PITTSBURGH — Oct. 23, 2018 — Rivers Casino Community Champions will be volunteering with Community Kitchen Pittsburgh for a day of community service on Thursday, Oct. 25. Team Members will join Community Kitchen Pittsburgh in preparing two or three days’ worth of meals for local nonprofit congregate feeding centers. The day of service will take place at the Hazelwood Facility located on Second Avenue in Hazelwood, Pennsylvania.
Community Kitchen Pittsburgh provides a free 12-week culinary training program, which includes classroom instruction, applied training, supportive services and job placement, to individuals with barriers to employment. From this program, 93 percent of graduates secure jobs in the food service industry. In addition, Community Kitchen Pittsburgh prepares roughly 2,000 meals daily for schools, afterschool programs and nonprofits.
“We are grateful for the continued support from Rivers Casino and its Team Members,” said Jennifer Flanagan, executive director and founder of Community Kitchen Pittsburgh. “With their help, we are able to provide meals to many individuals in need.”
This volunteer opportunity is part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a project with the Hill House Association; they prepared the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Garden on Kirkpatrick Street by weeding, planting and cleaning up the outdoor garden in preparation for the fall season.
“The good work Community Kitchen Pittsburgh does for this city is contagious,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino. “Our Team Members look forward to this day of community service every year because of the enthusiasm and positive attitudes that come from both Community Kitchen and all the Rivers Team Members.”
