Team Members support local senior center for August project

PITTSBURGH  Aug. 29, 2018  Rivers Casino Community Champions are volunteering with Brighton Heights Citizens Federation for a day of outdoor community service. On Friday, Aug. 31, Team Members will join the federation in completing the garden at the McClure Senior Center on McClure Avenue.

Since its inception as a nonprofit organization on Feb. 28, 1967, the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation has been involved in a multitude of service activities, events, and extensive renovation and new building projects in the community. This month, Rivers Casino Team Members will be building 12 raised beds in the McClure Senior Center’s community garden. They will assemble the wood and fill the beds with wood chips and dirt on-site. Also, volunteers will weed the surrounding grounds.

"We can’t wait to get out there and fix up the McClure Senior Center," said Vince Pallus, president of Brighton Heights Citizens Federation. "With the Rivers Casino Community Champions, just about anything is possible. Their positive attitude and amazing work ethic bring us closer to the finish line each time.”

This volunteer opportunity is part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a project with Allegheny CleanWays, in which they worked from land and water to remove trash that accumulated along the shore. Other tasks included trail maintenance, mulching and invasive species removal.

“Brighton Heights Citizens Federation does so much to promote and encourage the advancement of a great neighborhood,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino. “The Community Champion Team Members are honored to volunteer with this wonderful organization for a fifth consecutive year.”
