Casino Team Members Partner with Larimer Consensus Group’s Green Team

PITTSBURGH — June 27, 2017 — The Rivers Casino Community Champions will assist the Larimer Consensus Group’s (LCG) Green Team with their Larimer Community Garden “Love Your Block” landscaping initiative on Friday, June 30. Volunteers from the casino will plant and clean the vacant lots near the Mount Ararat Church.

Serving as a forefront of community change, LCG unites Larimer residents, neighborhood organizations, leaders and other stakeholders to develop a strong sustainable community and economy through volunteer participants. Founded in 2008, the Green Team is just one of LCG’s five action teams that work to clean and beautify public spaces.

In an effort to enhance vacant lots with flowers and fresh landscaping in the Pittsburgh community, the Green Team instituted the “Love Your Block” initiative. As a result of this initiative, volunteers have resuscitated old, vacant lots into vibrant community gardens.

“We love when the Rivers Casino Community Champions join us for our ‘Love Your Block’ projects,” said Carolyn Peeks, chair of the Green Team. “It’s great to work with a team that shares our dedication to making the Pittsburgh community a beautiful, cleaner place to live.”

With projects at both the neighborhood and city-wide levels, the LCG initiatives promote a vital and green community for all, while engaging with organizations and individuals to make a positive impact in their community. LCG works to unite Pittsburghers to come together in making Pittsburgh a “most livable city” for all of its residents.

“We had a great time working with the Green Team on last year’s ‘Love Your Block’ project and we’re excited to return this year,” said Craig Clark, general manager of Rivers Casino. “They’ve developed a wonderful program that beautifies our neighborhoods and engages the community. We’re very happy to join them and do our part in making Pittsburgh a beautiful place to be.”

Each month, Rivers Casino’s Team Members volunteer to assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community as part of the casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a service project with the Hosanna House and the Garden and Green Space Committee of the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation.
