See Pittsburgh’s Famous Skyline Constructed Entirely of Playing Cards

PITTSBURGH – Aug. 2, 2016 – In gaming, there’s no number luckier than 7. This summer, Rivers Casino is celebrating its Lucky 7th Anniversary with special player events and promotions. Pittsburgh’s first and only casino opened its doors to the public seven years ago on Aug. 9, 2009. Rivers Casino hosts an estimated 2.9 million guests each year.

Leading up to the casino’s official anniversary date, guests can enjoy special “seven-themed” promotions and events on the gaming floor. Bryan Berg, Guinness World Record-holding professional card stacker, has constructed seven iconic buildings from Pittsburgh’s famous skyline with playing cards. The finished structure weighs in at more than 250 pounds and required more than 1,800 decks of cards, which, if placed end to end, would stretch more than five miles. Fifth Avenue Place, U.S. Steel Tower, PPG Place, One Oxford Center, the Gulf Tower, BNY Mellon Center and Rivers Casino itself are the seven buildings Berg constructed—no tape, no glue, no bending, no folding or other tricks required. Guests can see the card sculpture on display at Rivers until the casino’s official 7th anniversary on Tuesday, Aug. 9.

“Celebrating our Lucky 7th Anniversary gives us a chance to reflect on our accomplishments and say thank you to the people who helped us get here,” said Craig Clark, general manager of Rivers Casino. “As we look ahead toward the next seven years, we are grateful to the guests, Team Members and the community for their ongoing support.”

In its first seven years of operations, Rivers Casino has had plenty of winners, awarding more than $631 million in jackpots. Record-setting jackpots include payouts of $342,829 from the Bad Beat poker promotion, $260,717 on a $1 Quick Hit slot machine and $170,371 on a multi-table progressive, to name a few.

The casino itself has earned a few wins, too. Rivers has been recognized as a 2016 “Healthiest Employer” by the Pittsburgh Business Times and received top honors for “Best Overall Gaming Resort” and “Best Overall Entertainment” in Pennsylvania in Casino Player magazine. The casino has also been named “Best Overall Casino” in Pennsylvania by Strictly Slots magazine each of the last six years and has earned a variety of dining awards for its restaurants, particularly the wine list at Andrew’s Steak & Seafood.

A Great Place to Work

Rivers Casino employs more than 1,700 Team Members with great benefits including tuition reimbursement, 401k planning, health and dental insurance and more. Rivers has been voted a “Top Workplace” in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and “Best Place in Work” in the Pittsburgh Business Times by its Team Members. More than 1,100 Team Members have been promoted since opening.

A Strong Economic Engine

To date, Rivers Casino has generated more than $1 billion in tax revenue for the City, County and Commonwealth. Rivers has contributed more than $52 million to fund construction expenses for CONSOL Energy Center and $6.8 million to support Allegheny County libraries. Additionally, the casino is ranked as one of the city’s largest employers – helping to put Pittsburghers to work in well-compensated jobs with great benefits.

A Proud Community Partner

Each year, Rivers Casino partners with more than 100 community groups to help make Pittsburgh a better city to live, work and play. Rivers Casino “Community Champions” – made up of Rivers Team Member volunteers – donate more than 2,000 hours annually to support local causes. Since opening, the casino has contributed an additional $9 million to local charities.
