GLADYS NIGHT IS TAKING THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN TO RIVERS CASINO PORTSMOUTH

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – June 3, 2026 – A legendary performer who has captivated audiences around the world for more than six decades, Gladys Knight will bring her signature songbook and timeless hits to Rivers Casino Portsmouth’s Event Center on Friday, October 9, at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $59 and are available at RiversCasino.com.
American singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman and author Gladys Knight has long been one of the greatest. Known as the “Empress of Soul,” very few singers over the past fifty years have matched her unassailable artistry. Knight has enjoyed No. 1 hits in Pop, Gospel, R&B and Adult Contemporary. She has also triumphed in film, television, and live performances. Knight is known for the hits she recorded during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s with her group The Pips, including the signature hit, “Midnight Train to Georgia”—which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Born in Georgia, Knight began performing gospel music at age four. Her mother, Elizabeth Knight, created the musical group The Pips, consisting of Knight, her brother Bubba, her sister Brenda and her cousins William and Eleanor Guest. Renamed Gladys Knight & The Pips, the group debuted their first album in 1960 when Knight was just 16. With Gladys singing lead and The Pips providing lush harmonies and graceful choreography, the group went on to achieve icon status.
A seven-time Grammy Award winner — four as a solo artist and three with The Pips — Knight has also been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. In 2024, she received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her extraordinary contributions to music and culture.
Knight has recorded more than 38 albums over the years, including four solo albums: “Good Woman” (1991), “Just for You” (1994), the inspirational “Many Different Roads” (1999), and “At Last” (2001), which employed the talents of contemporary producers like Randy Jackson.
Beyond music, Knight has enjoyed a successful career in television and film. She made a guest appearance on the FOX hit series “Star” and appeared in the 2016 film “Almost Christmas,” both of which were produced and directed by Lee Daniels. She also appeared on ABC's 14th season of “Dancing with the Stars” and, in 2019, she competed on the inaugural season of “The Masked Singer.”
