Team Members From Rivers Casino Pittsburgh Assist Manchester Bidwell Corporation With Annual Block Party
Rivers Gives volunteers support preparations for MBC’s May 22 community celebration
The Rivers Gives team from Rivers Casino Pittsburgh is getting an early start on Memorial Day weekend, teaming up with its longtime community outreach partner, Manchester Bidwell Corporation (MBC), for their first volunteer project together. Casino volunteers will assist with setting up MBC’s annual block party on Thursday, May 22.
From 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Rivers Gives volunteers will clean and prep the outdoor area, arrange chairs and tables and support any last-minute efforts to ensure a smooth, welcoming experience for guests. The event will open to the public at 4:30 p.m.
The MBC Block Party is a fun-filled event for all ages that encapsulates community, crafts and spectacular food. Guests can enjoy summer-themed food stations prepared by the amazingly talented culinary arts students and staff at MBC’s Bidwell Training Center. Food and drink vouchers that can be used at the bars and food stations will be available for $5, while admission for attendees will be free.
Additionally, attendees can sip on local craft brews and participate in hands-on activities such as ceramics crafting and screen printing at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild (MCG) Youth’s “Guild-On-The-Go” mobile studio, with music being presented by MCG Jazz.
“Rivers Casino’s support will help make our annual block party even more impactful,” said Jonathan Zito, director of communications at Manchester Bidwell Corporation. “Every year, it’s a day all about bringing people together, and we’re grateful to have their volunteers be part of it.”
Founded in Pittsburgh, MBC is a nationally recognized nonprofit combining youth mentorship, arts education, workforce training and social enterprise to uplift the community. Founded in 1968 by Bill Strickland, MBC includes MCG Youth, MCG Jazz and Bidwell Training Center, offering creative programs for youth and career training for adults in fields ranging from chemical laboratory technician to culinary arts.
“Manchester Bidwell is a cornerstone of opportunity and inspiration in our city,” said Dr. Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. “We’re proud to partner with them for the first time and to support a celebration that uplifts both the arts and our community.”
Last month, the Rivers Gives team partnered with the National Aviary for Take Your Child to Work Day, where Team Members and their children enjoyed a day of hands-on learning and bird-related fun.
