‘Rivers Gives’ Volunteers Host Post-Memorial Day Cookout for Veterans at Veterans Place
Rivers Casino Team Members to prepare meals and honor local veterans
Continuing its monthly community outreach efforts, the Rivers Gives team from Rivers Casino Pittsburgh will assist in hosting a special post-Memorial Day cookout for veterans at Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard on Wednesday, May 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
During the celebratory event, casino volunteers will operate the grill, prepare fresh vegetables and help create a festive and welcoming setting for those who served. Additionally, Team Members will prepare to-go hoagies for veterans unable to attend the event in person.
Veterans Place is a Pittsburgh nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness among U.S. military veterans throughout the region. The organization provides transitional housing, employment assistance, wellness resources and supportive services designed to help veterans regain stability and independence.
“We’re grateful to welcome the Rivers Gives team back to Veterans Place for this meaningful day of service,” said Jessica Gilmore, director of operations and development at Veterans Place. “This cookout is a wonderful way to honor and celebrate our veterans while fostering a sense of community and appreciation for their service.”
Founded in 1996, Veterans Place provides support to veterans transitioning from homelessness to stable housing and aims to connect at-risk veterans with resources that support long-term success and community engagement.
“Following Memorial Day, this volunteer project provides an opportunity for our Team Members to personally thank and celebrate local veterans through food, fellowship and community service,” said Dr. Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. “Rivers Casino remains proud to support the important mission of Veterans Place and the brave men and women who have served our country.”
Rivers Gives is the casino’s long-running community outreach program in which Team Members report to work at a local nonprofit instead of on the gaming floor.
