RIVERS CASINO WISHES PITTSBURGH A HAPPY NATIONAL PIEROGI DAY!
On this date in history, a prodigious pierogi was boiled in the Burgh
PITTSBURGH—October 8, 2021—Seven lucky years ago today, the chefs at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh earned the Guinness World Record for Largest Pierogi. The history-maker weighed in at 123 lbs. (55.79 kg) and was cooked to doughy potato perfection back on October 8, 2014.
The preeminent pierogi was certified by Guinness World Records Official Adjudicator Michael Empric at the North Shore casino, following a rigorous review of the preparation, ingredients, cooking process, and outcome—starting at 5 a.m. that morning. The first bites were about 5 hours later, after weigh-in.
Rivers Casino Executive Chef Rich Marmion, Assistant Executive Chef Adam Tharpe, and a team of culinary artists from Rivers’ food & beverage department spent months planning, testing, and tasting. They even fabricated custom cooking equipment to serve the massive dumpling into the Guinness World Records book.
In recognition of National Pierogi Day on October 8, Rivers Casino’s popular Wheelhouse restaurant will offer “Polish Hill Nachos,” a custom-created starter of pierogies, cheese sauce, pico de gallo, jalapenos, sour cream, and scallions—for half price all day ($6 instead of $12).
