Rivers Casino Pittsburgh's 'Rivers Gives' Team Preps for Volunteer Day with Northside Food Pantry

PITTSBURGH — Jan. 23, 2024 — Packing 150 turkeys and hams, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s “Rivers Gives” volunteers are making their way to the Northside Food Pantry to assist with food preparation and distribution to community members in need on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The upcoming volunteer day will mark the second consecutive year of Pittsburgh’s Rivers Gives’ partnership with Northside Common Ministries.

For more than 40 years, the community-based nonprofit operator of the Northside Food Pantry, Northside Common Ministries, an affiliate of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, has been committed to combating local food insecurity and amplifying the voices of our neighbors in need. Uniquely thoughtful in its approach, the Northside Food Pantry offers a supermarket-style experience to those in need on a community-wide scale, empowering individuals to personally choose from a variety of healthy and wholesome food options.

“We’re delighted to reunite with Northside Common Ministries to assist with food prep and take part in the terrific work they do to support our community,” said Dr. Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. “At Rivers Casino, we’re passionate about fighting food insecurity and homelessness in our area.”

Rivers Gives is the casino’s long-running community outreach program in which casino Team Members report to work at a local nonprofit instead of the gaming floor.
