Top corporations join forces to promote opportunities for area MWDBE suppliers

PITTSBURGH — April 16, 2019 — On Thursday, April 18, Rivers Casino will host the fifth annual SHARE 2019 supplier diversity event. SHARE 2019 seeks to bring together the region’s top corporations and organizations, and minority, women and disadvantaged business enterprise (MWDBE) suppliers to expand opportunities and increase growth among area MWDBEs. The event will take place from 2 to 6:30 p.m.

The yearly SHARE event allows top corporations and MWDBEs to connect and explore opportunities to do business together. It is an occasion for MWDBEs to showcase what they can offer to the region’s largest companies — and for corporations to educate on their programs and business practices. The end goal is to find effective MWDBE suppliers to support corporate needs.

“Each year, we look forward to hosting the corporations, sponsors and MWDBE suppliers at the SHARE 2019 event,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations for Rivers Casino. “It’s important to continue the mission of integrating diverse commerce into our city’s marketplace.”

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald will join Lynne Hayes-Freeland, CEO of LHF Communications, in welcoming the MWDBE suppliers and corporations to Rivers Casino. The afternoon will consist of matchmaking sessions for MWDBE representatives and participating institutions, during which MWDBEs will pitch their capabilities to corporations that provide helpful information on their supplier diversity program. The keynote speaker for the event will be Bill Strickland, executive chairman of Manchester Bidwell Corporation.

“After each SHARE event, we are extremely pleased with our Pittsburgh business community for engaging with MWDBE suppliers in an effort to change our city’s commerce for the better,” said Toni Y. Silva, director of supplier relations at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).

The 2019 SHARE program is sponsored, organized and presented by a committee of representatives from UPMC, PNC Financial Services Group, City of Pittsburgh, Rivers Casino, Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council, Allegheny County’s MWDBE Department, the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania, Highmark Health and the Women’s Business Enterprise Council. Additional sponsors include AmeriHealth Caritas, The New Pittsburgh Courier, Gateway Health, FHLBank and PJ Dick/Trumbull/Lindy Paving.
