RIVERS CASINO HITS THE BOOKS FOR
NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK (APRIL 9—15)

To date, Rivers Casino has generated $8.1 million for local libraries

PITTSBURGH — April 6, 2017 — In support of National Library Week (April 9—15), Team Members from Rivers Casino will donate their time to support Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh as part of the Rivers Casino Community Champions program on Wednesday, April 12. Volunteers from the casino will convene to support the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH) on Baum Blvd.

The LBPH provides devices similar to audio books for patrons who have vision impairments and/or physical limitations that may hinder their mobility. LBPH also features a state-of-the-art studio to record audio books for patrons in the greater Pittsburgh region and through the entire state of Pennsylvania.

More than 3.9 million items are borrowed each year from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh system. On April 12, the Rivers Casino Community Champions will be sorting, organizing and processing the recordings and devices so that patrons can readily access the diverse collection.

$8.1 Million Generated by Table Games Tax for Area Libraries

Along with its volunteer community support, Rivers Casino has generated more than $8.1 million for the Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA) since the casino opened in 2009. The ACLA includes Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh as one of the 46-member public libraries that are supported through the table games tax assessed to casinos. Last year, Rivers Casino generated more than $1,265,000 dollars for the Allegheny Library System.

“Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is a vital resource in our community,” said Craig Clark, general manager of Rivers Casino. “We are proud to support the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped and to be part of the economic engine that funds local libraries.”

In addition to the support provided by the Community Champions program, guests at Rivers Casino can donate $10 cash to get $10 Free Slot Play on Thursday, April 6 and Saturday, April 8 from noon until 8 p.m. During the month of April, guests can also donate their extra slot vouchers and table chips to Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.

ABOUT CARNEGIE LIBRARY OF PITTSBURGH
To Engage our Community in Literacy and Learning

Since its inception in 1895, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh continues to build community, enable learning and provide equal access for residents of all abilities, skills and backgrounds. Today, our system consists of 19 locations, including the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, which serves Pennsylvania residents who have difficulty reading due to a physical impairment, reading disability or vision challenge. Although books remain the heart of the library, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has transformed into a strong library system that focuses on Workforce and Economic Development, Education and Community Vitality. Comfortable library spaces welcome people to read, to think, to learn, to share and to teach each other. Children and teens learn and grow; adults exchange ideas, acquire new skills and expand their understanding; and every person in our community has access to ideas, information and items -- in person or electronically. Through the community’s investment, the Library is able to do this and much more, helping to make life better for people in our region.
