Ranked Pittsburgh’s “#1 Workplace for Employees Who Feel Genuinely Appreciated by their Employer”

PITTSBURGH – Aug. 22, 2016  For the second year in a row, Rivers Casino’s team of approximately 1,700 Team Members has voted it as a “Top Workplace” in Pittsburgh, as reported in the annual, third-party survey published by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“The atmosphere at Rivers Casino is friendly, kind and understanding. We have many Team Members with different backgrounds and that allows us to learn from one another and form friendships to help each other out, both inside and outside of the casino,” said Carl Page, a cook in the banquet department at Rivers.

In addition to being ranked among Pittsburgh’s “Top Workplaces” this year, Rivers Casino was recognized with a special award for “Appreciation.” Honorees were chosen based on standout scores for employee responses to specific survey statements, including “I feel genuinely appreciated at this company.”

“Rivers Casino is a fun place to work and feels like home. I’ve been here for more than seven years, and they take care of us, especially with benefits like good health insurance and 401K plans,” said Svetlana Mishina, Players Club representative.

Rivers is assessed in the “large company” category, defined as a Pittsburgh business with 400 or more employees. Employees at each company were surveyed, and the results were analyzed by a third-party research firm, WorkplaceDynamics, to determine the rankings. Rivers Casino Team Members completed anonymous surveys that asked employees to be open and honest about their work environment, confidence in their managers and overall job satisfaction.

“I’ve been here since before the casino opened, and it’s the personal perks, like turkeys and hams at the holidays, Kennywood days and free parking, that set Rivers apart from other companies,” said Carl Zappa Jr., engineer and painter.

Another “day one” Team Member, Kimberly Ley, said, “I set goals for myself when I first joined the Rivers Team in 2009 as a buffet cashier, and my supervisors have always recognized and fostered my career development. Now I’m a Pit Manager in Table Games, and I love coming to work every day with my Team.”

In 2014 and 2015, Rivers Team Members also voted their casino one of the city’s “Best Places to Work” in the Pittsburgh Business Times rankings. Similar to “Top Workplaces,” the “Best Places to Work” program encourages employees to openly rank their place of business in a voluntary, anonymous survey that is evaluated by a third-party research organization.

“I took advantage of Rivers’ tuition reimbursement benefit and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business and Management Information Systems. Now I’m encouraging others on my team to do the same so that they can grow and develop in the gaming industry,” said Jonathan Angelo, IT manager at Rivers and a Team Member since before Rivers officially opened in 2009.

Rivers was recognized in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s special “Top Workplaces 2016” supplement in its Aug. 21 issue. To view the complete list of 2016 “Top Workplaces” winners, visit the “Top Workplaces 2016” section of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette website.

“We are grateful to our talented Team Members for voting and for making this recognition possible,” said Craig Clark, general manager of Rivers Casino. “We are a ‘Top Workplace’ because we have a top team.”
