PITTSBURGH  Sept. 23, 2019  On Friday, Sept. 27, Rivers Casino Community Champions will volunteer with Community Kitchen of Pittsburgh. Team Members will help prepare two or three days’ worth of meals for local nonprofit congregate feeding centers. The day of service will take place at the Hazelwood Facility, located on Second Avenue in Hazelwood, Pennsylvania.

Community Kitchen Pittsburgh provides a free 12-week culinary training program, which includes classroom instruction, applied training, supportive services and job placement, to individuals with barriers to employment. From this program, 93% of graduates secure jobs in the food service industry. In addition, Community Kitchen Pittsburgh prepares roughly 2,000 meals daily for schools, after-school programs and nonprofits.

“We love teaming up with the Rivers Casino Community Champions,” said Jennifer Flanagan, executive director and founder of Community Kitchen Pittsburgh. “They never cease to bring positive energy and continued support to the Community Kitchen.”

This volunteer opportunity is part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions volunteered with The Woodlands. Team Members donated time to do a wide range of landscaping tasks and cleaned the various cabins located on the grounds in preparation for the weekend retreats.

“The Rivers Casino Community Champions, including myself, are excited to team up with Community Kitchen this month,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. “They have an amazing staff and talented students who are committed to making a difference through their love for cooking.”
