Rivers Casino Community Champions Volunteer With Allegheny Cleanways And Friends Of The Riverfront
Casino Team Members support local nonprofits by donating their time and efforts
PITTSBURGH — July 25, 2019 — On Tuesday, July 30, Rivers Casino Community Champions will embark on a volunteer day with Allegheny CleanWays and Friends of the Riverfront. Team Members will be working from land and water to remove trash that has accumulated along the shore. Other tasks include trail maintenance and invasive species removal.
Formed in 2000, Allegheny CleanWays is a non-profit organization that engages and empowers people to eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Allegheny County. Through the different programs at Allegheny CleanWays, residents and businesses have revolutionized their ability to clean up dump sites and eliminate property vandalism. Similarly, Friends of the Riverfront’s mission is to expand, connect and enhance the Three Rivers Heritage Trail which encompasses over 25 miles of urban riverfront paths along both banks of the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers.
“Every year, we look forward to working along the riverfront with the Rivers Casino Community Champions volunteers,” said Hannah Samuels, education and tireless project coordinator at Allegheny CleanWays. “Our mission is to maintain clean waterways for our Pittsburgh community, and the Rivers Casino team always helps to make that happen.”
This volunteer opportunity is part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions volunteered with Hosanna House. Team Members donated time to beautify their Sherwood Event Center in Wilkinsburg, where they landscaped and cleaned around the outdoor areas of the facility including the outside classrooms, basketball courts and swimming pool.
“Our river cleanup volunteer day is one of our favorite community service days of the year,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino. “Our Team Members get to spend the day out on the river and lend a helping hand to our friends at Allegheny CleanWays and Friends of the Riverfront.”
