PITTSBURGH — Dec. 18, 2017 — The Rivers Casino Community Champions will brighten up the holidays for local veterans at the Southwestern Veterans’ Center on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Casino volunteers will be caroling and handing out holiday cards and gifts with the American Red Cross. Santa Claus will also be making an appearance to raise veterans’ spirits.

The Southwestern Veterans’ Center provides a broad spectrum of health care and related services to veterans who are disabled, chronically ill or in need of specialized care, with the goal of efficient independence in mind.

“To be able to help organizations like the Southwestern Veterans’ Center and the American Red Cross is an honor for us and our Team Members, especially during the holiday season,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino.

The American Red Cross of Southwestern Pennsylvania prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The organization provides emergency relief to those impacted by disaster situations, educates the community on a variety of preparedness and health and safety topics, provides support for our military families and veterans, and collects over 40% of the nation’s blood supply.

“Our ability to provide comfort and hope following emergency situations is made possible by our generous donors and dedicated volunteers and supporters, such as those from Community Champions,” said Patricia Waldinger, CEO of the American Red Cross Western Pennsylvania Region. “We are truly grateful to everyone whose support enables us to live our mission each and every day.”

The Rivers Casino Community Champions program encourages casino Team Members to spend a day volunteering to support service projects. In 2017, this initiative provided more than $20,000 of support to local charities and organizations focused on improving the quality of life for Pittsburgh residents. In November, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a service project with Community Kitchen Pittsburgh.
