Rivers Casino Community Champions Team Up With No Strings Shop
Team Members lend a helping hand to local consignment spot
PITTSBURGH — Feb. 25, 2019 — February is the perfect month to spread the love. On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Rivers Casino Community Champions will be making a volunteer visit to No Strings Shop, the community consignment shop located in the Historic Hill District.
Team Members will be completing a paint project and helping to organize all the donated items in the shop.
No Strings Shop has been providing household items and clothes to community members for more than 20 years. The shop is unique because everything is free — there are no strings attached. It is the only secondhand shop of its kind in the Pittsburgh Housing Authority’s network of communities and probably the only business in the city with no cash register.
“I thought about this concept on a Thursday, and on Monday I was open for business,” said Effie Williams, founder of No Strings Shop. “I’m so proud of what the No Strings Shop has become for the community. The Team Members at Rivers Casino will only make it better here by helping to paint and organize. That’s such a huge help for us.”
This volunteer opportunity is part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a project with A Giving Heart, where they completed an indoor painting project.
“We love working with Ms. Williams at the No Strings Shop,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino. “A little goes a long way — the good work Ms. Williams and No Strings Shop offers the Historic Hill District is a breath of fresh air.”
