Rivers Casino Community Champions Serve Up Service In 2016
Casino Team Members Help Northside Common Ministries to Feed Those in Need
PITTSBURGH — Jan. 28, 2016 —The Rivers Casino Community Champions will visit Northside Common Ministries (NCM) tomorrow, Jan. 29 from 9 a.m.—2 p.m. Team Members from the casino will spend the day cooking and serving meals for the homeless, painting residential apartments in the NCM housing program and working in the NCM food pantry.
Northside Common Ministries is a non-sectarian, non-profit, community-based organization established in 1982 by a collaboration of 30 local churches to meet the increasing needs of the homeless population in Pittsburgh. An affiliate unit of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, NCM operates the Pleasant Valley Emergency Shelter for men who are homeless, the Northside Community Food Pantry and a Permanent Housing Program for men with disabilities.
“The Community Champions are excited to start another terrific year of service,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community development at Rivers Casino. “Northside Common Ministries provides many great services to our neighbors on the Northside and we’re looking forward to helping out.”
Rivers Casino also visited Northside Common Ministries last month. Team Members delivered holiday hams donated by Rivers Casino employees this December to feed families over the holidays.
This volunteer effort is a part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. In 2015, Team Members donated more than 1,000 hours through the Community Champions program. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions delivered holiday care packages to veterans at the Southwestern Veterans’ Center as part of the American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces program.
