Larimer Consensus Group and Kingsley Association Partner with Team Members on Garden Cleanup

PITTSBURGH — July 29, 2015 — The Rivers Casino Community Champions will be collaborating with the Larimer Consensus Group (LCG) and the Kingsley Association to clean up two community gardens in the Larimer neighborhood on Thursday, July 30 from 8:30 a.m.—3 p.m. The project was originally slated for March, but was rescheduled due to poor weather conditions.

These community gardens give local residents a place to grow their own produce. Team Members will spend the day pulling weeds and preparing the gardens for the late summer growing season.

The LCG, with its subgroup, Larimer Green Team, brings stakeholders from the Larimer neighborhood together to create and implement projects that promote vitality and growth within the neighborhood. The organization works with other city groups and local government to help make Pittsburgh a “most-livable city” for all its residents.

“The garden has developed a greater sense of community and continues to be a valuable asset,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community development at Rivers Casino. “We are grateful for our hardworking Team Members, as well as the LCG and Kingsley Association for helping to empower change in the area.”

The Kingsley Association has provided services to working class ethnic families in Pittsburgh since 1893, including boy’s/girl’s clubs, infant care programs, athletic classes, community gardens and much more.

This volunteer effort in Larimer is a part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions helped clean the Pittsburgh shorelines in support of the Tireless Project.
