Team Members link up with the American Red Cross to brighten up the holidays

PITTSBURGH  Dec. 18, 2018  The holiday spirit is alive and well … On Friday, Dec. 21, Rivers Casino Community Champions will be volunteering with the American Red Cross in a joint venture to visit the Southwestern Veterans’ Center on Highland Drive. Team Members will sing Christmas carols and distribute cards to each room in the spirit of the season.

The American Red Cross of Southwestern Pennsylvania prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The organization provides emergency relief to those impacted by disaster situations, educates the community on a variety of preparedness and health and safety topics, provides support for our military families and veterans, and collects more than 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply.

The Southwestern Veterans’ Center provides a broad spectrum of health care and related services to veterans who are disabled, chronically ill or in need of specialized care, with the goal of efficient independence in mind.

“Our core duty to prevent and lessen human suffering in the face of emergencies is possible because of volunteers like the Community Champions,” said Patricia Waldinger, CEO of the American Red Cross Western Pennsylvania Region. “We give a sincere thanks to everyone who has helped us carry out this mission.”

This volunteer opportunity is part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a project with the Salvation Army; they were paired with local senior citizens to go shopping together for outerwear for the winter season.

“To be able to help organizations like the American Red Cross and the Southwestern Veterans’ Center is an honor for us and our Team Members, especially during the holiday season,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh.
