Team Members and their children donate time to local program

PITTSBURGH  April 23, 2019  On Thursday, April 25, Rivers Casino Community Champions will be completing community service hours at the National Aviary.

In honor of “Take Your Child to Work Day,” Team Members will have the unique and fun opportunity to bring their children along to volunteer. Throughout the day, Team Members and their kids will be working with National Aviary staff to prepare educational packets for local schools. Team Members and their families will also participate in a class about the rainforest, where kids will be able to see some of the birds and make a toucan craft.

The National Aviary is America’s only independent nonprofit zoo dedicated exclusively to birds. Located in Allegheny Commons Park on Pittsburgh’s historic North Side, the National Aviary has a diverse collection comprising more than 500 birds representing more than 150 species from around the world, many of them threatened or endangered in the wild.

“We’re thrilled to have the Rivers Team Members … and their kids here volunteering their time,” said Ted Bartlett, Philanthropy Manager at the National Aviary. “We look forward to this day. It’s a fun way to get everyone involved — and it’s the perfect opportunity to see the birds as well. As a nonprofit, we love it when organizations join with us in our mission to inspire respect for nature through an appreciation of birds.”

This volunteer opportunity is part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions participated in a project with Center for Victims (CV), where they cleaned and organized CV’s Art Therapy Room and Domestic Violence Shelter.

“We’re appreciative of the National Aviary for offering our Team Members and their kids this special opportunity,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino. “Nothing beats lending a helping hand while spending time with your kids. It is an awesome day for everyone.”
