Rivers Casino Community Champions Partner With Allegheny Cleanways And Friends Of The Riverfront
Casino Team Members support local nonprofits by donating their time and efforts
PITTSBURGH — July 25, 2018 — Rivers Casino Community Champions are volunteering with Allegheny CleanWays and Friends of the Riverfront for a day of outdoor community service. On Friday, July 27, Team Members will band together to keep Pittsburgh’s rivers and trails beautiful.
More specifically, Rivers Team Members will be working from land and water to remove trash that has accumulated along the shore. Other stewardship tasks include trail maintenance, mulching and invasive species removal.
Formed in 2000, Allegheny CleanWays is a non-profit organization that engages and empowers people to eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Allegheny County. Through the different programs at Allegheny CleanWays, residents and businesses have revolutionized their ability to clean up dump sites and eliminate property vandalism. Similarly, Friends of the Riverfront’s mission is to expand, connect and enhance the Three Rivers Heritage Trail which encompasses over 25 miles of urban riverfront paths along both banks of the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers.
“Waterways are a huge part of what makes Pittsburgh…Pittsburgh!” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino. “Our friends at Allegheny CleanWays and Friends of the Riverfront make Allegheny County a better place, and our Team Members can’t wait to get out and give them a hand.”
"We always look forward to working with the Rivers Casino volunteers because of their care and work ethic," said Hannah Samuels, education and tireless project coordinator at Allegheny CleanWays. "Here at Allegheny CleanWays, we strive to maintain our region's waterways and the land that surrounds them. It's great having teammates who feel the same way."
This volunteer opportunity is part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a project with the Hosanna House, where they landscaped and cleaned around the outdoor areas of the facility such as the outside classrooms, basketball courts and swimming pool.
