Team Members prep for winter volunteer activities

PITTSBURGH  Jan. 21, 2019  There’s no better New Year’s resolution than donating time to help others. On Thursday, Jan. 24, Rivers Casino Community Champions will be spending volunteer hours at A Giving Heart, the community center on Climax Street. Team Members will be painting the main room, which is designated for activities including snack time, tutoring, reading and games.

A Giving Heart is a nonprofit organization that provides after-school programming and nutritious meals to elementary and middle school children in Allentown and the surrounding Hilltop neighborhoods. With a recently renovated building, A Giving Heart now provides:

  • Homework help and music, dance, literacy and outdoor
    recreation activities.
  • Daily open gym program during the summer.
  • Summer feeding program (breakfast and lunch), which serves neighborhood children and a local child care facility.

“We love what we do here at A Giving Heart,” said Kristee Cammack, president and CEO of A Giving Heart. “With the help of the Rivers Casino Community Champions, we are most definitely stronger together. We thank them and all of our volunteers!”

This volunteer opportunity is part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a project with the American Red Cross and Southwestern Veterans’ Center in which they sang Christmas carols and distributed cards to help get residents in the spirit of the holiday season.

“The people that make up A Giving Heart are nothing short of amazing,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino. “It is such a pleasure for our Team Members to volunteer with them. They’re an incredible Pittsburgh resource and we thank them.”
