Rivers Casino Community Champions Hit The Trails On Earth Day
Team Members Partner with the BHCF to Clear Park Trails
PITTSBURGH — April 21, 2015 — The Rivers Casino Community Champions will take to the great outdoors this Earth Day, April 22, to help the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation (BHCF) perform trail maintenance and plant trees in Brightonwoods Park.
Rivers Casino Team Members will help clear safe passageways for walkers, hikers and children to travel the trails, providing access to more than 300 acres of city park land. Volunteers will also assist in the planting of 50 small trees from Tree Pittsburgh's nursery throughout this green space.
“Without the help of the River’s Casino Community Champions, we would not be able to tackle such a monumental community enhancement project as this trail clearing," said Susan Benn, chairperson of the Garden and Green Space Committee for the BHCF.
Last year, the Rivers Casino Community Champions helped the BHCF with a fall cleanup project. They cleared weeds and removed weed trees and poison ivy, moved boulders for new rock gardens, laid stone pathways and planted irises and daylilies in the BHCF community gardens.
The Brighton Heights Citizens Federation promotes and encourages the advancement of neighborhood improvements and a great sense of community. This is accomplished by uniting the citizens of the community, its organizations and institutions to work hand-in-hand to enhance the health, safety, welfare, property and well-being of the community.
This volunteer effort in Brightonwoods Park is a part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Earlier this year, the Rivers Casino Community Champions answered phones for the KDKA Warmathon.
