Rivers Casino Community Champions Get Cooking With Community Kitchen Pittsburgh
Casino Team Members to Pack Meals and Assist in Administrative Tasks
PITTSBURGH — October 28, 2015 — What better way to head into the holiday season than spending a day in the kitchen? The Rivers Casino Community Champions will visit the headquarters of Community Kitchen Pittsburgh (CKP) tomorrow, Oct. 29, to complete a service project. Rivers Team Members will be on-site from 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m.
The Community Champions will be assisting with a wide range of projects on the property, including data entry, and sorting, organizing and packaging food for distribution.
“We thank the Rivers Casino Community Champions for donating their time and efforts this holiday season to help feed families in Pittsburgh,” said Jennifer Flanagan, executive director of Community Kitchen Pittsburgh.
Community Kitchen Pittsburgh is a mission-based, multi-faceted food service company. Its goals include workforce development, community-engaged social enterprise and food waste reduction. The organization provides culinary-based, on-the-job training and support to individuals with barriers to employment. CKP prepares and delivers thousands of meals every day to food-insecure residents throughout the community.
“Community Kitchen Pittsburgh provides a wide variety of training and services that are vital to the community,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community development at Rivers Casino. “Especially at this time of year, it’s our pleasure to spend a day in the kitchen supporting their mission.”
This volunteer effort is a part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a series of indoor and outdoor tasks with the East End Cooperative Ministry.
