Rivers Casino Community Champions Answer The Call For Warmathon
Team Members Join KDKA and the Dollar Energy Fund to Help Pittsburgh Stay Warm
PITTSBURGH — Feb. 12, 2015 — Team Members from Rivers Casino will take part in this year’s NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Warmathon on Friday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m.—1 p.m. This group of Rivers Casino volunteers will be answering phones and taking donations for the annual charity event focused on helping Pittsburgh-area families pay utility bills for the winter months.
“The Rivers Casino Community Champions are always looking for new ways to give back to the city we call home,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community development for Rivers Casino. “It is a privilege to join other local businesses in helping Pittsburgh families stay safe and warm this winter.”
The Rivers Community Champions will be present at CBS Pittsburgh Radio studios to take calls. All donations called in will be combined with dollar-for-dollar matching donations from local utility companies to directly help families in need.
The KDKA Warmathon is a two-day radio/telethon event. In the seven years since the event began, the Warmathon has raised more than 1.9 million dollars to help local limited-income families maintain or restore basic utility services in their homes. Working in conjunction with the Dollar Energy Fund, the KDKA Warmathon has helped more than 5,300 families in the Pittsburgh area keep their lights on and their homes warm through the winter.
Volunteering at the KDKA Warmathon is a part of Rivers Casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions prepared and served meals for homeless families and individuals, in addition to completing a painting project at the Northside Common Ministries facility.
