Team Members Partner with Local Organizations for the Tireless Project

PITTSBURGH — June 26, 2015 — Today, the Rivers Casino Community Champions will donate their time and effort to assist Friends of the Riverfront and Alleghany CleanWays clean the Pittsburgh shorelines in support of the Tireless Project, a regional movement to clean and beautify local waterways.

Rivers Casino Team Members will be working to remove invasive species and debris from the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and Ohio riverfront in preparation for Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Regatta that begins on July 3. The annual Regatta, now in its 38th year, is the largest inland regatta in the United States.

“We’ve had the pleasure of working with Rivers Casino year after year, and their Team Members are always eager to share their time and talents,” said Lindsey Waugaman, the Tireless Project coordinator from Allegheny CleanWays. “We appreciate their support of our ongoing efforts to keep Pittsburgh’s shorelines beautiful.”

The Tireless Project is a collaborative endeavor between several local organizations committed to stewardship of the rivers and streams in Allegheny County, including Friends of the Riverfront and Allegheny CleanWays. Since the project’s inception in 2003, more than 3,400 volunteers have removed 243 tons of debris, including 2,911 tires and 17,880 pounds of metal and other recyclables, from the rivers’ shores.

“Rivers Casino enjoys the beautiful views of our location year round, and it’s important for us to help preserve these amenities for others to enjoy,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community development at Rivers Casino. “A big thanks goes out to our energetic Team Members who offer their time for this worthwhile cause.”

The cleanup is part of Rivers Casino’s yearlong community service outreach program. Each month, Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions assisted The Woodlands Foundation in preparing the lodge for visitors.
