"Gingerburgh" is on display now through January

PITTSBURGH — Dec. 7, 2018 — Sugar, spice and a display that’s hometown nice—Rivers Casino Pittsburgh has rolled onto the gaming floor one of the most inspired gingerbread arrangements Pittsburgh has seen … a Pittsburgh skyline of gilded goodness.

Since the first week of July, Rivers’ own Chef MeeMee Choi and Chef Adam Tharpe have been working tirelessly to brainstorm, sketch, schedule and finally start baking and building the massive gingerbread display. Chef MeeMee and Chef Adam, plus 15 additional pastry Team Members, have created a holiday masterpiece. The gingerbread skyline is made up of 200 pounds of gingerbread dough prepared entirely from scratch. Ingredients include:

  • 90 lbs. flour
  • 28 lbs. light corn syrup
  • 18 lbs. butter
  • 14 lbs. brown sugar
  • 3 c. cinnamon, ground
  • 1 c. ginger, ground
  • 6 tbsp. salt
  • 40 lbs. powdered sugar
  • 20 lbs. fondant
  • 15 lbs. isomalt
  • 12 lbs. mini marshmallows
  • 5 lbs. egg whites
  • 4 lbs. crispy rice cereal

The gingerbread skyline includes historic buildings such as U.S. Steel Tower, One PPG Place, Fifth Avenue Place, Gulf Tower, Tower at PNC Plaza and the Cathedral of Learning. Other iconic Pittsburgh landmarks included in the sugary sculpture are Point Park, Market Square and a “Christmas Castle.” Casino guests will find the display located at the Pittsburgh Pride Wall near the elevator entrance to the gaming floor.

“Our very own ‘Gingerburgh’ has made it to the gaming floor,” said Andrea Kleinrock-Marmion, vice president of food and beverage at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. “Chef Adam, Chef MeeMee and all of the pastry chefs have gone above and beyond to create one of the sweetest things Rivers has ever seen.”

Holiday promotions and entertainment, such as the 2019 Range Rover Velar Drawing and the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild Holiday Jazz Party in Drum Bar, will be taking place at Rivers Casino throughout December. For more information, please visit RiversCasino.com.
