Mario Lemieux To Kick-off Charity Poker Tournament At Rivers Casino
Proceeds from Tournament on Thursday, Jan. 15 to Benefit The Mario Lemieux Foundation
PITTSBURGH – Jan. 9, 2015 – Rivers Casino will host annual The Mario Lemieux Foundation Charity Poker Tournament on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. Players will be treated to an appearance by Mario Lemieux, who will be at Rivers to help kick-off the charity tournament.
Players can still register for the highly-anticipated tournament. The entrance fee is $200, $50 of which goes directly to the Foundation. Prior to taking their first hand, players will receive 5000 chips for each additional $25 Charity Buy. Registration is available in-person at the Rivers’ poker room.
“We’re excited to welcome Mario back to Rivers Casino. Our players can expect an exciting night of poker that will benefit an outstanding cause,” said Jim Tinney, Rivers’ poker room manager.
In addition to the cash prize pool, players will have the chance to win hockey gear and memorabilia signed by Mario and other Penguin greats.
Rivers Casino has a long history of support for The Mario Lemieux Foundation. The two organizations teamed up in 2010 to help launch table games in Pittsburgh, and designated the nonprofit the sole benefactor of Rivers’ table test event. The Foundation took home nearly $30,000 in contributions from Rivers as a result.
Created in 1993, the Mario Lemieux Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for cancer and neonatal research, as well as Austin’s Playroom Project, an initiative that creates sibling playrooms in medical facilities.
